Architect John Mainwaring, principal of JMA Architecture, has designed Viridian Village to blend effortlessly into its bushland surroundings. This private haven follows the sinuous contours of Noosa Hill as it rises above Hastings Street and the sloping sides of the valley form natural boundaries, providing privacy from outside eyes.
His vision seamlessly integrates the buildings into the landscape, opening up views through the canopy of trees and the village laneway, down to Laguna Bay. This virgin eco-system also includes a carefully preserved wildlife corridor that is quintessentially Noosa. Using the basic design principles of a Hillside Village, the main artery through the site, Little Hastings Street, has been configured to provide an enjoyable pedestrian transition to Hastings Street.
Founded some 30 years ago, multi-award winning JMA Architecture specialises in characteristic Australian coastal architecture. Significant projects cover the spectrum from master planning to urban design, waterside mixed-use developments, resorts, public buildings, residential and multi-residential projects. John Mainwaring has been involved with many design projects in South East Queensland, particularly in the Sunshine Coast region, giving him an intimate understanding of the area.
Among his many citations, commendations and awards are the Robin Boyd and Robin Dods Award for residential architecture, the FDG Stanley Award and the Sir Zelman Cowan Award for institutional buildings, the National Commercial Commendation, the National Environment Award and the Noosa Council Building of the Decade Award.
